If it's purely for recording then Ableton isn't the best, but if you want to get into live work, clip based composing etc then Ableton has something to offer. ![]() ![]() In terms of instruments and effects, I think garageband wins, but it does depend on what you want to use it for. It would allow you to do the kind of clip based, session view, live work that is Ableton's USP (although only 16 tracks and 8 scenes), but garageband has that Live Loops thing now which is a simplified version of the same. It's definitely not an upgrade in all respects. It often comes free with hardware (although that might be live lite) which is fine but I'd be hard pressed to recommend it as a standalone purchase due to those limitations and the lack of instruments/effects/content.Ĭomparing it to garageband is tricky. Ableton intro is quite limited in terms of content and track count.
